I was an RA for 3 out of 5 of my college years. By far my third favorite part of this job was making bulletin boards and door decorations – no joke. My second favorite thing was planning events. And my first favorite thing was getting to know my residents. (I know, I know – it sounds like a sappy lie, but I love my residents and I have the memoirs to prove it.) A lot of the bulletin boards I made were by hand – I made some campus maps that were pretty cool, I played a “build a story” game where my residents each got to pick a word of the story (and yes, it got dirty as fast as you think it would), and I made a huge restaurant map with menus of University City restaurants one year (that was probably the most epic undertaking). However, there were a lot of times that I made a PowerPoint presentation and would just make that my bulletin board. Here are my top 5 of the ones that I found saved on my external hard drive. Feel free to use whatever you want – just maybe check with the other RAs on your staff first. Lucky for y’all – I don’t know too many people still in college.
#5 Coffee Houses in Philadelphia
There was a summer where I made it my mission to visit a new coffee shop every week. I used that summer as inspiration for this bulletin board.
#4 20 Greatest Philly Movies
Because Drexel’s in Philadelphia, I felt like I should take advantage of that. Nothing wrong with instilling a little bit of Brotherly Love.
#3 Old School Television
Maybe I’m dating myself here, but these are some of the best shows I’ve ever seen on television. They’re all shows of the 90s. This was my very first bulletin board in September 2007. Nothing to bring people together like a little old school Nickelodeon.
#2 Top 10 Toys of the 1990’s
Yet again, I’m a 90′s girl. I think there are still one or two years of college students who can appreciate this left. (If not, Julie, it’s all up to you to educate them! And Erin!) Such a great decade.
#1 Buffalo Chicken and Desserts
I love buffalo chicken. I really don’t eat much meat, but I REALLY love buffalo chicken. I made a PowerPoint presentation to prove it. Then I did desserts for the vegetarians in the world. And for the people who finished their buffalo chicken.
