Last week I was tagged in a post by Jenn of Hello Brio called How I Spend My Me Time. First of all, I want to say that me-time has nothing to do with the card that I chose as a winner last night while playing Cards Against Humanity. Second of all, I want to share with you the (slightly modified) definition that she gave for me-time.
Me-time is specifically anything I’m doing when I’m not actively creating for public consumption. I know that sounds weird, but I do spend quite a bit of time working, working on my blog, [crafting], [planning], etc.
I read her whole post, got to the bottom and thought to myself. Eek, I’m not actually sure that I have me-time in my life. My schedule is pretty much dictated by my Google Calendar and I’m usually booked out 2-3 weeks in advance, when was there supposed to be time for myself? Not only that, but I think what I’ve been doing is thinking that all the activities that usually go in me-time, like relaxing, are activities that I’ve been categorizing as us-time. One day when I’m dating somebody, I’ll have more time to relax. One day when I’m dating somebody, I’ll watch television shows with them. One day when I’m dating somebody, I’ll have lazy days around the house with them – and until then I’ll just keep working my butt off to forget that sometimes I get lonely. It then occurred to me that probably wasn’t healthy either. The conclusion? Introducing Me Time in 2015.
(All of the questions below are from Jenn’s prompt, feel free to play along!)
What do you watch or read during me-time?
Sitcoms. I absolutely love sitcoms. Currently I’m watching New Girl, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory, and Melissa & Joey. I’m not quite caught up on all of them, but I do enjoy them a lot a lot. And while Gilmore Girls doesn’t quite fit in the sitcom classification, I can’t wait to go back and watch them all. Historically, my favorites have been Boy Meets World, Full House, Saved By The Bell, Hey Arnold, Phineas and Ferb, Good Luck Charlie, Who’s The Boss, Facts of Life, Growing Pains, 8 Simple Rules, Friends, Sister Sister, Smart Guy, The Nanny, Golden Girls, and Will and Grace. Swoon. Sitcoms really are my favorite.
I also read a lot of blogs, but that doesn’t feel like me-time these days so much as it does actively being a part of the blogging world.
What do you wear during me-time?
Flannel pajama pants or jeans and an oversized hoodie with the hood pulled up.
What are your me-time beauty products?
Nailpolish. I had my nails painted for the majority of middle school and I started doing it while I was traveling back and forth to Louisiana, but now that I’m doing dishes 2-3 times a day I’ve stopped because it doesn’t seem worth the effort.
Current favourite nail polish?
(How fitting, nice work, Jenn) I’m a fan of the Sally Hanson complete salon makeover polishes because of the brush, I’ve been day dreaming about a really deep blue color they have called dark huemore. Of course, I think black is classic.
What do you eat/drink during me-time?
I drink tea – and if I’m feeling really motivated I’ll go for a walk to get bubble tea. I don’t really associate eating with me-time because it takes more effort than I’m willing to give. I do really enjoy getting bagel sandwiches from Good Karma Cafe though, does that count?
Current favourite candle?
Confession: I’ve actually never lit a candle in my house before, and now that my roommate has a cat I don’t know that that’s a smart idea. One day I think I’d like to buy a candle though. Is anybody else singing Rent songs in their head yet?
Do you ever have outdoor me-time?
If I’m home in Connecticut I like to go for hikes, but I don’t have an outdoor me-time outlet in Philadelphia.
Would you ever go see a movie alone?
Yes, and I have before. I remember the day I told my mother I was going to a movie alone in high school and she was incredibly confused. I told her I wanted to see the movie and couldn’t find anybody to go with me so I was going to go myself, it was hard to argue with. I should probably do this again soon.
Favourite online shop?
The online shops that I tend to fill up my cart and then have to talk myself down from purchasing everything I want are Modcloth, The Shine Project, Ann Taylor, Ann Taylor Loft, and pretty much all of Amazon. I totally used to do this with Forever 21 in high school.
Anything to add? What else do you do during me-time?
I talk on the phone and catch up with my friends. I know this might not sound like “me-time” per say, but as a hardcore extrovert if I had too much me time I really would go crazy.
Thanks for coming up with this prompt, Jenn, I’m going to have to add more of these things to my routine in 2015. I love that it falls into the theme I’m rolling with in 2015: be comfortable.
