Pie Recipes for Pi Day

If I were a good blogger I would have posted about Pi Day before it happened, but since time travel hasn’t been invented yet, I will reserve major holiday celebrations for major holidays. Today I want to share with you how I spent Pi Day this year. Also, in case you didn’t know this was the most epic Pi Day of all the Pi Days of most of our entire existances. Pi is used to calculate areas and circumfrences of circles, its shortened form is 3.14 (hence March 14th), but technically pi is an irrational number because it is never ending. In 6th grade I memorized over 100 digits, I can still recite about 50 of them without blinking an eye.  This year was 3.14.15 9:26:53am, which is as many digits of pi as we can get in a celebration. Anyway.

I’m sure you all remember Johanna & John. Well, they hosted the most epic pi celebration of the year. I arrived at their house at 9:30pm on Friday night, and we had made 15 pies by 2:30pm the next day. For the past few years Johanna has been making pies and bringing them into work (last year she brought 9), and she learned over the years that the easiest way to make sure all the pies get made is to lay out all of the plates, crusts, ingreidents, and recipes so that you have a very clear to do list. Also, she decided a long time ago that there wasn’t enough of a difference between making the pie crust and buying the pie crust to make the timing difference worth it. And if she says it’s true, I believe her.

And when that fails you can make a post-it to-do list that you get to move from left to right as things get completed.

All of the pie was delicious, but I think my favorites were the mushroom gorgonzola and the dark chocolate salted caramel. Which one do you want to try?

*There was no recipe for these pies because they were either a) made up, b) it was a combination of recipes, or c) family recipes.
**I apparently forgot to take a picture or accidentally deleted the picture of the Sky High Cookie pie.  So you just get a bonus recipe.

Confession – I had never made a pie before this past weekend and I learned it’s super easy. I’m going to have to add some of these to my usuals. I added my favorites of these to my desserts and food pinterest boards.  If you have a favorite pie I’d love ot hear about it in the comments below.
