Dear Grandparent,

Sometimes phonecalls with grandparents can be awkward. You know you’re supposed to call, but you’re not quite sure what to say or what to reflect on. One way to avoid this while still staying in touch is to send a letter (one-way communication) instead of needing to talk your way through both sides of the conversation before it happens. Also, letters tend to make people smile. Especially if you put an embarassingly large amount of stickers on the envelope before you send it, so many so that the mailman stops your grandfather and comments about it. Yes, this has happened before.

Dear Teacher,

Most of us have had at least 12 teachers in our lives. Maybe one of them inspired you to do something big with your life, helped you discover your passion for writing, or believed in you when nobody else did. Why not reach out to say thank you and let them know what you’re doing now? It’s always nice to hear that you made a difference in people’s lives. So why not remind someone now?

Dear Parent,

I’m not sure about y’all, but I know I don’t say thank you to my parents nearly as often as they deserve it. Life gets busy and then you start to forget what’s important to you. If you happen to fall into this category too, why not send them a letter telling them how much they mean to you?

07-Chrystina-Noel-Dear-Crush-Letter-Template-700px.jpg

Dear Crush,

This is my favorite use of snail mail. Hand written letters to crushes. If you read my list of no-reason reasons to send mail you might remember that one of the number one things you can use snail mail for is raunchy romance letters. I actually have a box in my room of all of the romantic hand written letters I’ve ever received and I love going back and reading through them. The template below is a simple way to ease into, hey, I really like you if you’re not quite ready to go straight to raunch (blog post idea?). Who knows, maybe you’ll even get a letter back?

Dear Coworker,

I’m not sure about any of you, but I wouldn’t have made it through the past few years without certain coworkers. Lucky for me I have at least a dozen coworkers that I can say absolutely anything to at any given time and not worry about reprocussions of it. And you know what, those people deserve to be thanked more often. So this letter is all about surviving in the workplace together.

Dear Best Friend,

I absolutely love sending letters in the mail to my best friend. It’s like a little secret surprise that I know that they’re going to get and it’s going to brighten their day. (Nobody has ever said that a well-intentioned happy letter made their day worse.) I spend time emailing my friends, gchatting my friends, and texting my friends throughout the day, but sending a letter adds a little extra touch to the mix.

Dear Old Friend,

There are so many people that we have met and gotten the chance to know over the years and some days it seems impossible to stay in touch with all of them. It doesn’t need to be hard though, just jot down a few words. The most random part is having to ask for an address. “Hey, I know we haven’t talked in a while, but may I have your address please?” The response I usually get to this is, “are you sending a wedding invitation?”, which always makes me smile. No, not even close, just a postcard.

Dear Blogger,

Most bloggers won’t have a physical address posted anywhere, you can try asking and see if they will give it to you, or you can just send them an email. Any blogger would be more than thrilled to get an email formatted like the one below. There’s a lot of work that goes into writing these posts, and it’s always great to know that there’s somebody out there who loves reading them.
