little Chrystina

I’m currently 24.  I grew up in Connecticut and lived in the same house until I was 17.  My childhood consisted of carrying around Minnie Mouse, playing soccer, playing the flute, watching heck of a lot of television, and chasing my younger sister around the island in the kitchen.  I learned that I really like math and science and decided I wanted to become a Disney Imagineer.  I went to an all-girls Catholic high school; no, all of the stereotypes are not true, but I admit that some are.  In high school I learned that I love to sing and I planned a lot of parties.  Almost all of them revolved around food, because that’s how Catholic School girls roll.  I moved from cow town to Philadelphia for college to major in architectural engineering.  The college I chose wasn’t really for me, but I fell in love with the city.  I was a resident assistant, in four choirs, and continued to me a party planner.  I graduated and took a job in the city doing construction consulting (yes, that’s my day job).  The people are awesome and sometimes I do cool things.  I love people, food, and making people smile.  I love learning more about myself as I get older.  I found out I have a love of social media (read: addicted).  I have a fear of karaoke and salad bars.  I’m single and loving it.  And I LOVE writing this blog and thank you so much for reading along.

2013-01-28, introduction to the card giveaway

Hi everyone,

I wanted to take a chance to reintroduce myself to everybody who has recently stopped by (thank you!!).  Over the past year, this blog has become a space for me to capture greeting cards, party ideas, and life ramblings – and I like to think that I embody the phrase “engineer by day, hostess by night.”  If you look at how I eat M&Ms, you’d see why I’m an engineer.  If you look at my Prom 21st birthday party, you’d see why I’m a hostess.  And if you look at my guide for planning Wine and Cheese events, you’d see why I’m a pretty good combination of the two.

Recently this blog has been slacking on the “hostess” component though, but the good news is that I just bought a couch futon, so now I can start hosting (small) parties again.  But there are plenty of other posts to keep you entertained in the meantime.

Somebody once asked me what my “thing” is in life – and my answer to that is people.  I love meeting people, getting to know them, making them happy, introducing them, and learning what makes them tick.

I usually make decisions with my heart instead of my head (I made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins for some people in the office last week because my heart hurt when I found out that they were working until after 11:00pm again).  I also like to talk my way out loud to solutions to problems and conclusions of thoughts (you can ask my roommate about that hot mess).

Thanks for stopping by, I really appreciate it.  I appreciate every visit, every comment, and every share, so now it’s time that I share something with you.

The theme of this week seems to be revamping.  I hope you’re all enjoying the design changes on the blog – I will admit that I’m not 100% on them, but I’m going to try them out for a little bit – all suggestions are welcome.  One thing that I did while thinking about the direction for the blog was look back over what some of my favorite posts since the beginning of this blog have been.  I’d definitely say these are worth checking out if you missed them the first time.

things I believe in
This is probably one of the most honest and open posts that I’ve written so far.

what do your refrigerator magnets say about you?
I was shocked to find out what mine say about me.

5 easy food ideas for hosting a brunch party
If I don’t say it enough, I love brunch.

free printable: basic types of salad
Learn more about my irrational fear of salad bar lines here.

when social media collides and blows your mind
The best story in this post involves Jeanine, Smores, Australia, and my dad.  (yes, really)

I’d like you to meet the baton rouge chrous/my first stage makeup experience
I don’t think I’ve ever worn this much make up in my life.  And I made a flow chart.

tiega’s house
I can’t say enough about how fortunate it is that I have this post.  Within the past year both Tiega and Grampa passed away – and they sold the house.  I currently have one of the snow globes sitting on my dresser thanks to Mrs. Aubrey’s mom.  I still can’t believe they’re gone.

my current top four signature greeting card features
It’s strange how there are some things that make their way into almost every card that I make.

how to write a great thank you card
A really simple breakdown of what makes a good thank you card – with major props to my friend Erin.

how to host a wine and cheese party
I’m so glad I wrote this post.  Because of it I might finally have my wine and cheese quantities correct.  Wine and cheese parties are so expensive, so if you can avoid overbuying – good.

Look what I found, look what I found!!  I’m way behind on reading blogs again (but catching up today!), and I came across a post in which Stefanie from A Day in the Life featured me and Allie from Beauty and the Feast.  She asked three questions:

1. What I love to blog about
2. What my favorite Olympic moment was
3. What sport I would play in the Olympics

You can find the post here.

(picture from her post, “Life Lately“)

Stefanie commented on my blog one day about blog buttons.  I sent her an email.  She sent me an email.  I sent her an email.  And now I’ve been keeping up with her blog ever since.  AND she just had an adorable baby boy.  Oh, and we had a pretty awesome discussion about zucchini flowers – which always make me happy :)
