In order to get this post out in the right 24-hour time frame I started yesterday at 7:45pm and went until today at 8:00pm.  Here’s a day in the life of me.  Beware, it’s fascinating.

Did I ever mention that I worked on a construction site for 6 months?  It sort of comes with the territory of being an architectural engineering major.  That’s pretty much where I solidified my sailor’s vocabulary.

One of the jobs that I was in charge of was taking pictures of the site every week to put progress photos up on the owner’s website.  Well, once I get my DSLR in my hand, my focus quickly goes from left-brained to right-brained.  Every week I would show up with a few pictures on my camera that were a little bit out of the ordinary.  My boss would call me into his office and say, “Chrystina, what is this?” – and I would respond “Don’t you love the way the light is hitting off of that object?” or “Look at the great composition of this with the long lines and shapes” – and he would look at me like I was crazy, but nod and smile and move on.

The best was when I found a pipe hanger on the ground.  I hadn’t seen one before – all I knew was that it looked like a piece of the tin man.  Well, that’s what I told my boss.  From that day on every piece of metal I found was part of the tin man – he had arms, legs, and I even found him a sword!  Good times.

Here are some of the pictures that I took on the site during those 6 months.  I think it’s interesting how my right and left brain come together and I love pictures of lines and angles.  What do you think?

When 2013 started one of the things that I was most excited about was the fact that I could take all of my 2012 Instagram photos and put them in a book.  By nature, I am someone who loves to have things.  One day I hope to have enough space that I can have an entire area dedicated to photo albums, scrapbooks, photo books, and picture frames.  They’re so much fun to look back on.

I decided to use Artifact Uprising to create the book, a small company out of Colorado.  The team was great to work with – I actually interacted with two different people throughout the process of creating this book.  I exported all of my pictures using Instaport.  Their interface was very simple to use with premade layouts.  The book that I made was 90 pages (the maximum), with 9 pictures on each page.  (I took a lot more photographs in 2012 than I thought I did.  Actually, I didn’t even get the Instagram account until April.  What does that say? #addicted)

Now comes the big question.  Do I write in this book, or not?  I got this idea from Elise Blaha.  She ordered this garden photobook and wrote all over the pages in it.  It looks wonderful, and it captures so many more memories this way.  But it’s such a commitment that I’m nervous about it.  This is definitely a go big or go home situation.  What would you do?

Since the last two posts were talking about these grandiose ideas and life missions and learning to be happy – I figured it was about time I off-set that with something a little bit more fun.  In the last post I teased all of you with a singular picture from mine and Jai’s photoshoot – the happy 2013 picture.  Why would you want to stop at one picture when you can look at 12 pictures of how adorable we are?  I know, I know – you’re thinking to yourself – but Chrystina, you said you were going to stop posting photography on this site.  This is just too much fun to pass up.  By the end of the week photos from Atlanta and Paris should be up (I hope) – but I won’t bore you with those pictures over here.  Check it out.

Also, to any of you who know Jai, please note that I am sporting the Jai eyeliner.  She did it, not me.  I have to admit, it was pretty fun for an evening – I also have to admit that I’m positive that I couldn’t do it myself.
