Did I ever mention that I worked on a construction site for 6 months? It sort of comes with the territory of being an architectural engineering major. That’s pretty much where I solidified my sailor’s vocabulary.
One of the jobs that I was in charge of was taking pictures of the site every week to put progress photos up on the owner’s website. Well, once I get my DSLR in my hand, my focus quickly goes from left-brained to right-brained. Every week I would show up with a few pictures on my camera that were a little bit out of the ordinary. My boss would call me into his office and say, “Chrystina, what is this?” – and I would respond “Don’t you love the way the light is hitting off of that object?” or “Look at the great composition of this with the long lines and shapes” – and he would look at me like I was crazy, but nod and smile and move on.
The best was when I found a pipe hanger on the ground. I hadn’t seen one before – all I knew was that it looked like a piece of the tin man. Well, that’s what I told my boss. From that day on every piece of metal I found was part of the tin man – he had arms, legs, and I even found him a sword! Good times.
Here are some of the pictures that I took on the site during those 6 months. I think it’s interesting how my right and left brain come together and I love pictures of lines and angles. What do you think?
