While I’m still waiting to find time to do anything with the pictures from the weekend, let me tell you about my St. Patrick’s Day.
I woke up early to work on cards (surprised?). I called my mother on a walk to Center City. She told me that she was making corn beef and cabbage (the longest word you seem to be able to spell using music notes – cabbage that is). I met up with Julia at noon to look at a new apartment (which was gorgeous, but I would be paying the same cost as I am now for a smaller amount of space). Then I had some time to kill before I met up with Carly and Sha’nele for brunch at Varga Bar.
Alright, now you know a lot of random facts – some of which are important, some of which aren’t important. Now, what the heck does this have to do with Chef Jacquie?
I was kind of sad about not being able to have my mother’s corn beef and cabbage, but I went on with my day anyway. While I was killing time, I happened to walk into Williams Sonoma. I walked in and a lady behind the counter said hello and asked how I was doing. Then she asked if I wanted some soup – bacon, potato and cabbage soup. Of COURSE I want some bacon, potato and cabbage soup. I took a little cup to try, and it was DELICIOUS. AND she had recipe cards made up already so I could take one for the road.

I told her that her soup was incredible and that I actually just talked to my mother and was sad that I couldn’t have her corn beef and cabbage, but this sort of made up for it. She smiled and told me that she wasn’t my mother, but she was somebody’s mother, and she had made me soup. It was pretty much just the perfect response.
After circling the store, I ended up coming back to her – telling her she pretty much made my day (in those words) and then asked her if I could blog about this experience – to which she (obviously) said yes. I’m glad she said yes so quickly and willingly because I’m still at that point in my life where I feel awkward asking people about blogging – I’m working on it.
