Journaling, Gratitude, Happiness, and More

Hi all,

Thank you so much for right-off-the-bat joining the Things I'm Working On Podcast. I appreciate your support and having you along for the ride. Going forward, you will receive a newsletter every Sunday and new podcast episodes will be launched every other Sunday. Can't wait to have you along for the right.

Exciting Podcast News:

  • I realized I accidentally incorrectly punctuated the podcast when creating it on Libsyn. (Of course I did.) So going forward, the show name will no longer be Thing's I'm Working On. So that's cool.

  • There are eight 5-star reviews already! I really appreciate everyone who left one already, it means the world to me.

What's Up Next:

  • The next two episodes will be about my journey learning Spanish. If you've ever thought about starting to learn a new language there are some great tips in here - Spanish or otherwise. It's definitely been a journey and I'm excited to share with you what my Spanish teacher, Gloria, and co-worker, Adriel had to say about the process.

Thought-provoking Self-Improvement Conversations This Week:

  • I discussed whether you should hire a financial planner to consult or manage your money. Right now I just have one for consultations, not necessarily money management. I look forward to learning about this in the future.

  • This same friend, Julia, and I had a moment where we celebrated the fact that journaling all of the things in your head can totally calm your brain. How did it take me until the age of 29 to figure that out?

  • I had a conversation with a friend about how I used to be more uncomfortable being alone than I am now. What changed? In the past few years when I had been left alone my mind would immediately start thinking about all of the things that we're going right in life and I wanted to ignore them. I eventually learned that once you deal with the things that aren't going right, your mind calms down and being alone is no longer the worst. So that sounded like progress. It might even inspire me to try being out there in nature again. I just need to figure out how to get there first.

  • My friend Bill told me about The Happiness Lab podcast, I've listened to the first four episodes and am really loving it. Here's the blurb - In "The Happiness Lab" podcast, Yale professor Dr Laurie Santos will take you through the latest scientific research and share some surprising and inspiring stories that will forever alter the way you think about happiness.

  • I tried to get my mom to download the Gratitude app that I've been loving. I don't think I've convinced her yet, but I did get a text message where she told me she spent some time this morning thinking about all the things she's grateful for, so that sounds like a step in the right direction.

If you're enjoying the show to go ahead and leave a 5-star review and share it with a friend. It helps people find the show!
