16 Party Ideas Inspired By Gilmore Girls

I admit it. In January I sat down and rewatched all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls. I had seen them all except for the second half of season 7, so I figured I might as well start at the beginning again just in case I missed anything. Throughout the episodes, I continued to be inspired by the banter, the relationships, the food, the boys, and the parties. So today I want to take a few pages out of the Gilmore Girls' playbooks and share 16 party ideas inspired by Gilmore Girls episodes through the seasons.

Dance-a-thon

In Season 3, episode 7 Lorelai talks Rory into enterring the Stars Hollow dance marathon. They dance for almost 24 hours, just try not to break-up with your boyfriend on the dancefloor 10 minutes before winning.

Knit-a-thon

In Season 7, episode 9 Lorelai, Chris, and Sookie attend the Stars Hollow knit-a-thon. They found sponsors for each each row or minute knit to raise money for the town. Try to make your marathon last longer than theirs lasted in this episode - just don't invite Chris.

2002 Party

Also in season 7, episode 9 (which takes place in 2007) Rory attends a 2002-themed party with Lucy & Olivia. Listen to some Nelly, User, Ja Rule, and JLo and enjoy your evening.

Life & Death Brigade Adventure

If you're feeling extra adventurous you can throw a life & death brigade-themed adventure like episode 7 of season 5. Whether you choose to use only words that don't have the letter 'e' in them, jump off a building, jump off the cliffs of costa rica, or shoot paintball guns at human targets - be careful.

London Party

Before Logan moves to London to join the family business Rory packs all of his friends together in a bar to throw a UK-themed party in season 6, episode 22. Work on your British accent before throwing the party though, otherwise you might end up like Rory did.

Felon Party

After Rory steals a yacht in season 5, Logan throws a felon party for Rory and all of the guests dress in prison-garb. This is also ironic because it starts the jail-like-sentence that begins when Rory moves into her grandparents' house. Might as well have some fun before community service hours, right?

Makeover Party

When Luke agrees to throw his daughter April a birthday party in season 6, episode 20, he has no idea what he's getting himself into. It's a bust until Lorelai pulls out the secret weapon - the makeover party. Just make sure you have everyone's permission before they spend the night for the slumber party - and that the parents know who's in charge.

Sweet Sixteen Party

Find yourself a pink boa, lots of balloons, a shiny crown, and put your face on a cake to replicate Rory's Sweet 16 party in season 1, episode 6. Oh, and don't forget to start a food fight when your parents leave.

Renaissance Fair Party

Luke's sister, Liz, sells jewelry at Renaissance Fairs. She and her husband T.J. are so involved in the Renaissance Fair life that they had a Renaissance-themed wedding in season 4, episode 21. Hire yourself a minstrel and a juggler - and don't forget the tights.

Take Out Party

Rory's first night at Yale she freaks out and calls her mother in season 4, episode 2. When Lorelai shows up she orchestrates a take out party where they order from all the takeout places in the city and rate the food and the delivery boys.

Guinness Book of World Records Party

In season 3, episode 18 Rory throws a huge birthday blowout for Lorelai. String the lights, invite the entire town, and don't forget to make the world's largest pizza.

House Party

Lane's band got their first start at a house party in season 3, episode 19 at Kyle's house. Make sure to prepare the house as well as Kyle did, hire a band, and buy a keg - and invite somebody who knows how to use the tap.

Reliving Your Childhood Party

In honor of Logan's 25th birthday, Rory throws him a Gilmore-inspired birthday in season 7, episode 15. This party featured her favorite birthday memories from previous years including twister, a pinata, and pin the tail on the moose.

Lord of the Rings Party

When Lorelai and Sookie's inn burns down, they need to come up with other ways to earn money so they turn to children's birthday party planning. Lorelai masterminds a Lord of the Rings birthday party in season 4, episode 3. And remember, girls can go on adventures too.

The Bachelorette-inspired Party

When Emily & Richard are worried about Rory dating Dean, they put together a bachelorette-inspired party. In season 5, episode 8 Rory is the only female bachelorette in a room full of Yale alumni and students. Maybe Emily was onto something.

Going-to-Asia Party

When Rory doesn't get the opportunity to go to Asia with Logan after he graduates in season 7 episode 2, Lorelai creates Asia in their living room complete with kimonos, dessert sushi, kung-fu movies. There were so many parties throughout those seven seasons, these were just the tip of the iceberg.
