A Birthday Party Playlist
Well, it’s official, my birthday party is only three days away. I’m excited. I’m nervous. I still have a few things left to do. But overall, I real just feel incredibly loved that so many people are coming out to celebrate with me.
Last week I put together the playlist for the birthday party. It took about 8 hours when all was said and done. I had to sort through my music to see what I even listen to, then I had to sort through that to see what would be good on a party list. It’s not like choosing music for a random mix CD, it all needs to be upbeat and peppy and inspiring. I ended up breaking it out into categories. Then I sorted the categories by artist. Then I highlighted in blue the ones that I didn’t think were danceable (just in case we all end up dancing). Then I wrote “slow” next to the ones that would count as slow dances – not sure if that’s going to end up happening either. Then I starred some that needed to be played (mostly because they are certain people’s songs).
There are two reasons that I put so much effort into this. The first one is that I think that I set the bar pretty high with the music playlist at my 21st birthday party. I very clearly remember an I’ll Make A Man Out Of You sing-a-long, as well as a La Vie Boheme sing-a-long. Life doesn’t get better than that as far as I’m concerned. The second reason is because there were some songs that were played during the party that I thought to myself, really, this song? Who’s responsible for that happening? And you know what, I was the only person to blame. It’s like when you go to a salad bar and you get something with onions on it and you don’t like onions and then you don’t enjoy it because you put the onions on it. (It always comes back to salad bars.)
Anyway.
The way it works out is that I needed approximately 90 songs for a 4-hour party, but I ended up with a list of 150 just in case the way the evening turns out one category is more popular than another.
What do you think?
