Do people merge their finances together when they get married?
Today we're talking about finances.
If you haven't yet figured it out, I'm asking all the hard questions this year. In my year leading up to the wedding. Well, 15 months actually, I'm working to get a handle on estate planning, merging bank accounts, and who exactly should get prenuptial agreements. I've been very lucky to have some great conversations with some wonderful women who are helping me out on this journey and I'm excited to be sharing what I've learned with each of you.
So what does this have to do with community building? Well, the first step in community building is having a solid foundation. When you start building your community through partnerships and resources at home, your community flourishes around you. Start at home, and build from there.
In the third episode of season 2, I chat with Beth D'Andrea from PlumTree Financial Planning about what it looks like to merge financial lives with someone when you get married.
What does it look like to merge accounts? or credit cards?
Do you need a separate savings account?
What kind of questions should you be asking yourself and each other as you forge together in your partnership?
All of these questions are answered (and more) in this hour long conversation.

Things to Check Out:
Life has felt a little slower in these past few weeks, but there's still plenty of content to be absorbing from around the internet. In addition to attempting to make a wedding registry (suggestions welcome), I've also been checking out:
This article summarizing a book about the rise and fall of the American Community, spoiler alert, they talk about how the pressures of time and money, mobility and sprawl, generational differences, and television all play a big part in this.
This HBR article about how we describe male and female job applicants differently (and why we should stop it and what we should do about it).
I learned about this decadent Milk Bar Dessert Sampler from Season 3 Episode 1 of the Passports & Pizza podcast a podcast about everything by two carb-loving carry-on only gals).
I bought this plants on shelf cross-stitch kit as having a hands-on craft was on my to do list for 2021 and I'll pretty much take any excuse to support Elise Joy.
I also bought Text Me When You Get Home: The Evolution and Triumph of Modern Female Friendship to add to the top of my "to-read" stack based on a recommendation from Katie Dalebout. I'm super excited. (That link is affiliate btw.)
Thanks so much as always for following along. I'd love to hear about what you're working on right now. Feel free to share by clicking REPLY to this email.
